The blog I gave ya last night was quite sub-par. Today, I would like to quickly make mention of something that is in the news. The Toronto Maple Leafs have decided to stop supporting the annual Easter Seals Skate they have for physically challenged and disabled children. They've been doing this skate-a-thon for 21 years and it gives kids an opportunity to look forward to each year as it comes closer. I listened to Ken Dryden on the radio today and he basically said it came down to a dollars and cents issue. The amount of money it costs to put on and host such an event just didn't offset the actual amount of money fundraised. They say "there is too much cost (20% too much) to host such an event". "Also, it takes a lot of staff time at MLSE and Easter Seals to put on such an event and that creates additional cost too".

I understand that to run a business, you have to be conscious of revenues and expenses. But please don't tell me that a corporation such as MLSE (Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment) has such a huge "cutting cost" issue. I mean, if you gotta cut some costs - take some money out of salaries like all that you are paying high-priced over the hill players. There are other ways to cut costs and really - you can pony up some money to cover the costs of this.

21 years of tradition. How can you break tradition? Bobby Orr started this and then the Toronto Maple Leafs took over. I really can't understand this decision and really think it is a poor one.
